About Birth with Meaning
“The birth of new life transformed my own…”
My Story
It all began in 2011.
One out-of-hospital labor, one cesarean, one misdiagnosed ectopic pregnancy, and three all-natural hospital VBACs supported by a midwife and doula. That’s my story… and it’s why I do what I do.
You could call me a natural mama of sorts, but what I really wanted was a meaningful birth experience—one where I felt informed, supported, and seen.
After 39 hours of labor at home and a freestanding birth center, I was transferred to the hospital by ambulance. Five minutes later, our daughter was born via emergency c-section under general anesthesia. She spent time in the NICU but was healthy (thank you, Lord!).
My one regret? I didn’t hire a doula. I didn’t know what I didn’t know and my husband and I were left guessing moment to moment. Even if everything had unfolded the same, I believe having a doula would’ve made an immeasurable difference.
Six months later, I went into surgery for what doctors believed was a cancerous tumor. It wasn’t. It was a baby. I’ve experienced the grief of losing a child and the unexpected turns a pregnancy can take.
Soon after, we conceived again (with just one ovary and one fallopian tube). I knew I wanted to try for a VBAC. We hired an incredible doula, and one week after my due date, my water broke at home. We drove one hour to a hospital where our provider supported VBAC and our second daughter arrived 45 minutes later… yes, in my street clothes.
We went on to have two more children, both VBACs, both boys. Our doula, Kim, was there for their births, too. The support we received changed everything.
Now that our family is complete, my passion is to pass that same support on to mothers from all walks of life.
I can’t control the outcome of any birth—but I can promise supportive, sensitive, and loving care throughout the journey. Because you will never be the same after childbirth.
The birth of new life has the power to transform your own. Birth was meant to have meaning.
